We are also reasonably new to Vienna, again about 9 months and would enjoy meeting up with people.

p.s. Is 9 months some form of standard gestation period before you find your way to all the good things?

The bf and I have only been here since June, but I had such great luck with an expat site while in Holland that long before we moved here I was sussing out the situation and searched online for "expats Vienna" and found this site. Imagine that!
We know no one in this city and that feels so freaky. I am not used to that. How does a couple in their mid 30's make new friends?
I feel like we are much older than most here. Is that so?
We don't go to bars and clubs and much prefer to sit home with movies, food, wine and chit chat.
Ew, all I need is "we enjoy moonlit walks" and it sounds creepily like a personal.

Come out with us one night Vonklumpp, I am sure you would like it. On one of the less extreme nights, so you won't get too much away from the at home with wine thing. Like Südwein, or a picnic..

I really do like picknicks! Just about the only possession I DO have is a blanket someone left at our flat that is perfect for sitting on!
I keep thinking that once my stuff gets here and I don't have to wear the same clothes all the time, I will feel much more excited about life in general. Something about this empty flat makes me feel like I am squatting this place. Oh yeah, that would be the emptiness!

I see there's a few places where the expats meet, is this a casual meetup or a more regular thing? and what's the general profile of expats here?

most of the places where we meet are casual. When we want to meet, we post an event.

We try to have some regualr events, like a night where we hope to meet and great newbies, or a picnic every tuesday (which isn't really happening with this weather)
Just keep an eye on the events and come along if you feel like it. Or do what jackofdiamonds did, go anonymus and observe us, and then decide whether you like us.

Our profile...I don't think you can really generalize, but let's try.
Most of us are between 20 and 40, and here for either work or love. I think I can say the majority of us have attempted to bond with the Austrians but have concluded that the safety net of an expat community where there is always something to do and people understand your frustrations with the Austrians is a great way to have a social life too. (long complicated sentence, sorry ).

Actually I think most people have come across this in Austria! The folks here are simply rude and hard to talk to even if you speak there language. But that why we have such a great group of people here!

Well you heard that from VV and yes it is very cool! They serve great wine and have a good atmosphere. You really should try to make it there for the happy hour

What is VVN? We are not really affiliated with anyone except ourselves.... A lot of us used to be on Virtual Vienna, but we left after it became a pay site.
